Meet Shaquille: Auburn/Lewiston Athletics Director

February 16, 2022

What Does it Mean to be a "Youth Development Professional?"

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, we are powered by our group of professionals who serve the nearly 500 members who attend our Clubs each day. Our staff are equipped with resources and experiences that allow them to reach kids and teens who need them most. But what does it mean to be a "Youth Development Professional" who dedicates their work to the youth of Southern Maine?

Meet Shaq!

Meet Shaquille Holzem, the Auburn/Lewiston Club's Athletics Director. Shaq brings past experience teaching environmental science and a deep enthusiasm for sports to connect to his role.

"We really try and encourage our members to learn about healthy and active lifestyles. We do so much more than just physical activities and games. I preach sportsmanship and creating a positive environment for growth and development."

Shaq recently spoke with the Sun Journal to share his expertise and passion for giving back to kids who need it most.

"We all need a place where we feel loved, appreciated, and heard. I went to a club as a kid and remember every staff I grew up with and the impact they played on me. I want to give back to those who are in need most. To help guide our youth to a bright future and allow them to be themselves."

Staff members like Shaq are what make BGCSM unique. We are a second home and second family to our members. Thank you, Shaq, for serving our members with excitement and building great futures in Maine!
