Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine encourages creative expression in all our members. Research shows that youth who participate in the arts are more likely to succeed academically. To ensure our members are able to take full advantage of their talents, we offer an array of arts programs geared to encourage our members’ interests and abilities. BGCSM offers something for everyone: fine arts, performing arts, digital art, music, and culinary arts. Programming varies from Club to Club.

With our Arts programs, members develop creativity, imagination, and expression through the joyful discovery of the Arts.
Exposing youth to fine arts promotes self-expression and creative communication. Celebrating our young artists helps to build confidence. BGCSM’s year-round fine arts program encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6 to 18. Every week, members are able to explore artistic outlets including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, sculpture, and more. Creations are displayed at local and regional exhibits.
Youth music classes allow young people to think creatively, work together, and can improve communication. Our music programs are available to elementary, middle, and high school students. Providing access to music lessons, instruments, and instructors allows members to explore new talents and grow as performers.
Digital photography enables youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness. Photography allows young people to experiment with a new form of art and learn essential digital skills that are helpful inside and outside the Club. Photography club is open to middle and high school students.
Our drama education program for Clubs encourages members ages 6 to 18 to engage in hands-on activities. Weekly drama classes build self-confidence, sparks creativity, and boosts academic achievement. Partnerships with local companies including the Children’s Museum & Theatre and A Company of Girls allow our elementary and middle school members to learn about performing arts first hand.
At BGCSM, we know children and teen deserves to be heard, but finding their voice can be hard. Art offers them the tools they need to express themselves and reach others. We offer an array of artistic outlets to our members at low cost. Supporting BGCSM means giving a voice to the future of Southern Maine.
