Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine programs emphasize the importance of social responsibility. We help our members
develop leadership, planning, and decision-making skills and work together to build a sense of community. Programming varies from Club to Club.

Torch Club is a “club within the Club,” helping to meet the leadership and character-development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life. BGCSM's Torch Club members focus on improving their Clubhouses, complete at least 4 service projects each year, and serve as role models for their peers.
Keystone Clubs provide leadership development opportunities for members ages 14 to 18. Youth participate in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs have a positive impact on members, their Club, and the community.
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, Club teens are nominated by staff members to become Youth of the Year candidates. One exceptional young person from each Clubhouse rises to the role of Youth of the Year. State and National events are held. Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of our nation’s young people.
Teen Council allows high school students to work with members of the Alumni Association to build an environment where members feel they can discuss and share ideas about current events, their community, and their Club.
