Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine Alumni Association

The Alumni Association was founded in 1959 by a group of former members who wanted to give back to an organization that played such an important role in their lives. Today, there are more than 500 BGCSM Alumni members! The Alumni Association is active throughout the year, sponsoring or participating in a number of fundraising and direct service activities, including The Patriots Day Road Race, Boys & Girls Club Awards Dinners in May, and Club Holiday Dinners in November and December. Each year, the Alumni Association awards scholarships to a selected group of Club seniors. See the Alumni brochure here.

Events

We sponsor many fundraising and direct service activities throughout the year:

Annual Patriots Day Road Race

A Portland tradition since 1930, the race in April raises money for the Alumni Association's Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships

Each year the Alumni Association awards scholarships averaging $1,000 each to deserving high school students who are BGCSM members.

Boys & Girls Clubs Award Dinners

The Alumni Association celebrates current Club members at the annual awards banquets.

Club Holiday Dinners

The Alumni Association brings seasonal cheer and festive meals to Club members each Thanksgiving and during the holiday season.

Just a few examples of the generosity to Boys & Girls Clubs from the Alumni Association:

• New program equipment at the South Portland Clubhouse
• New transportation vehicles
• A fully-equipped fitness center at the Portland Clubhouse
